I can't figure these two math problems out!
I'm going to seem really dumb for asking for help here. But w/e. I can't seem to figure these two problems out! Help!

Question 1: Janets gross weekly salary is $800.00, but 30% is withheld for taxes and other deductions. She sets asides $275 from her take-home pay each week for her bills. Janets budgets 1/3 of the remainder for miscellaneous expenses, and she puts the rest in her savings account. How much per week does Janet budget for miscellaneous expenses?
    A.)$35
    B.)$95
    C.)$190
    D.)$240
    E.)$285

    Question 1: If x2(the 2 is squared)=49, then 3(x-5) could equal:
    A.) 6
    B.) 9
    C.)17
    D.)27
    E.)81

    1) 30% of 800 is 240, so after the taxes and other deductions she has 560 left. She then sets aside 275, so she now has 285 left. It then says she budgets 1/3 of what's left for miscelanious. So 285 divided by 3 is 95$ and there's your answer.
    *800-240-275/3
    =560-275/3
    =285/3
    =95

    2) So you say x to the power of 2(or squared) is 49. So what we want to do is find out what x is so we can replace it in the other equation. What we want to do is isolate x, and the only way to do that is to do the opposite of squared which is to fing the square root, and what we do on one side of the equation we have to do on the other also, so we have to find the square root of 49 which is seven so x equals 7. So lets replace it in the other equation: 3(x-5)
    =3(7-5)
    =21-15
    = 6

I am pretty sure these are the answers especially since they are in your choices of answers. I reall y hope it helps. I am ashamed to admit this but I love math, well this math at least. See now I'm in math 11 and it seems really boring, things I'd never use in life. And believe it or not my math class is in french, but french or english its all the same. I hope you understand a bit better, sorry for my lousy explanation, really hard to right it on the computer.:(
