    Oil tank safety
    Hello,

    I had my old oil furnace (from 1964!) removed today and converted to electric. The guy that did the job removed the fill and vent pipes. Instead of capping them at the tank, he just placed fibreglass insulation in the holes. This looks to me to be one giant molotov cocktail. There isn't much oil left in the tank (between 1/16 and empty), but should I be worried?

    Do I need to call someone to empty the tank for me, or can I do this? Can I simply cap the two openings myself? Will a spark destroy my house (and me)?

    Should be removed actually.
    If the tank would leak into oil into the surrounding ground. Once into the ground it will be a EPA issue esp if you ever go to sell the house.

    No Number 2 oil takes a bit to get it burning. Just get plugs or caps and nipples and close the holes off.

    I agree with Fr. Chuck. It would be best to have it taken away.
