Why do you think Jesus rebuked James and John?
Luke 9: 51. Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his face towards Jerusalem
    52. And sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan village to make preparations for him,
    53. But the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.
    54. Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to burn them up?"
    55. But he turned and rebuked them,
    56. And they went on to another village.
Jesus rebuked James and John who latter wrote loving works that are in the bible.
    Why did Jesus rebuke them?

The Samaritans, related to the Israelites (through the sons of Jacob--Manasseh, Ephraim, and Levi) did not get along with the Israelites who were very prejudiced against them. (It goes back to the days of the Babylonian Exile.) The Samaritans interpreted the Torah differently from the mainstream Jews.

This is the story of the Samaritan village that denied hospitality to Jesus and his disciples. The Samaritans did not want to be involved in a pilgrimage to Jerusalem—a practice which they saw as a violation of the Law of Moses.

Jesus rebuked his disciples for their unkind thoughts toward people who were actually their shirt-tail relatives.

    spyderglass,
Yes many Jews did not receive Him but keep in mind that many did.
All of is Apostles were Jews and most of His disciples were.
    Some like Luke were Greeks.
Some Jews are still converting to Christianity and some of them have become Chrsitian ministers.
I know of several Jews who are Catholic priests.
According to Holy Scripture the day will come when most Jews will believe in and on Jesus.
    Peace and kindness,
    Fred

It is well that the Jews did not accept Jesus, if they had there would have been no hope for the Gentiles like the Samaritans. When I said Jews, I meant as the collective people during the time of Christ not Jewish people today (excluding the Jewish religion Jews).

I have deleted my original post about John and a rebuke...

Some people can not appreciate some fun remark. (And I do not mean you with that, dear Fred !)

    :)

    Perhaps,

The Gospel/ Jesus's way is NOT about fear or force or revenge, but about the choice to accept.

    Agree?

    inthebox,
Jesus way was to love and show it.
Accepting could be part of that.
People don't change by expressed hate.
    Hate breeds hate.
But they often do because of expressed sincere love.
Love often brings more love in return.
    Peace and kindness,

Reason in Truth found in scripture

Proverbs 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Standing Stedfast for Truth in The Word

Titus 1:13-14 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Proverbs 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Proverbs 13:1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Proverbs 24:24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
