I recently got married to a woman that had two kids. I a man that was raised to take care of responsibility so it came natural to me to care and love for the kids. At first all was going well and dandy. But lately the 3 yr old has been acting weird. Every time I come around him he cries. And whenever I hug and kiss his mother he runs and gets in between us. How do I let him know that I am not here to take his mommy away from him, and how do I get him to stop crying whenever I come around him?

Does the child sees his father? If so, maybe the father is putting thoughts in his head.

It is natural for a 3 year old to be attached to his mom and not want anyone near her, especially kissing her. He shows that we he goes in between your. This is the time to give him affection too but does he crys when you be do this to his mom? I think when he cry you and the mom should address it together, but after he calms down.

It's good that your raising and accepting your wife kids. In the end you will be greatly rewarding.

I would like to add that kids know when something is wrong. I read your other post and this might even make his more attached to her. Please advise your wife to seek counselling because what happen to her wasn't her fault theraphy works and can help her overcome it. Keep be supportive and helpful.

My son does this and so did my daughter at about the same age. We just included them in on the hug. Sometimes we would laugh to get the children to laugh. It is a phase and they should grow out of it. PS I am married to the children's father and it was with him that they would object.
