    Summons - Homeowner's association
My management company has issued me a summons which I have to answer. Since this was my first time I went to the court house to answer it today, but was told I need to answer in writing. I went to another part of the courthouse and got the appropriate paperwork which I need to notarize and have served to the plaintiff.

My question is: I received the summons in my front door so it was never physically served to me. I received another copy via mail on 9/17. When does my 20 days or 30 days officially begin? I want to answer as I don't want to go into default. I was employed for almost a year and I am filing chap 13 bankruptcy. The management company has a lien on my property (condo).

    I appreciate any answers.

The time frame begins when service was completed, which is the date you received the mailed copy. I wouldn't push the time - the "usual" rule of thumb is 2 days delivery time.
