Green card is expired during the naturalization process
    Hello all,

I am in the middle of naturalization process, just waiting for my oath ceremony. I applied for the citizenship since Feb of 2007 as soon as I turned 18. My Green card just expired in Aug. 15, 2008. Right now, I am just waiting for my oath ceremoney. And there is no point for me to renew my card again. The USIC said I have to show them a valid green card in order to complete the oath ceremony.
But, it is not my fault that it took them forever to get my application completed.
Can I still go to the oath ceremoney with my expired green card, it is not it expired for a long time? Has anyone experenced this similar situation before.
I read from somewhere that as long as I applied my naturalization 6 moths or more before my green card expired, it is okay.

Have seen both cases... several times... The first one was "A grade" applicant with clean record, no tax or child support issue, etc. Green card was expired less than 30 days, he passed. The second one was "C grade" :D He had DUI, misdemeanor, etc. and he was asked to have his green card renewed before taking oath ceremony.

Evaluate yourself, see if you are A or B, or C, then you'll know what to do. If you are in California... don't try to get around, just do it.

Besides, it's true when you said " it is not your fault that it took them forever to get my application completed..............," BUT as a permanent resident, one of your responsibilities is having your greencard renewed 90 days before expiration date.

I guess I just don't see the point wasting $260 and wait for 3 months to get a new green card. And I may asked for oath cermony in the middle of "getting" my green card.
