    Scratching till he bleeds
I have a 7 year old male husky. He is very healthy, gets lots of exercise. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a small scab on his head. He kept scratching it off. If I caught him I would stop him and cleaned the spot with h perox. That spot healed but there is now one on the other side , in between his ear and eye, that he keeps scratching. I rinse it and put neosporin on it and it will start to scab over and look better, then after a couple of days he scratches that scab off and scratches even more skin raw. It started at the size of a pea, now it's the size of 2 quarters. When he scratches it raw, he scratches till it bleeds and is red. Any suggestions on treatments would be greatly appreciated. If it continues I plan on a trip to the vet. I know I've rambled here, I'm just concerned about my boy.

I think your concern should be directed at the cause of these wounds. As this is the second episode and it has gone from the size of a pea to the size of two quarters, I would recommend getting him to a vet to get checked out. It could be related to an allergy, stress, an insect, etc.. A post-surgery collar could keep him from scratching the area, but it would not address whatever created the wounds in the first place.

Thanks linnealand, I'm going to take him in 1st thing Monday morn. I think if we can stop the cycle of scratching we can heal the wound. I'll keep you posted. I love this boy : ))

He probably has a fungus or ringworm on his skin.
