Work permit issue. Under age but out of high school
Well I'm pretty much stuck in a hole.
I'm 17 turning 18 in 2 weeks and I recently got hired for a job.
Since I'm underage I'm required to attain a work permit which you would get from your school. The catch is I already got out of high school but didn't attain a diploma(which I'm going to continue this january) I was short 5 credits so I couldn't attain one. So now the problem is how and where would I attain a work permit?
From my old high school? Community College? City?

    Will rep. Thanks

States have sites where you can get a work permit when you show proper ID. Depends on the State - where are you?

California doesn't make anything easy - other States say, "Go here and get working papers." Not California!

I find three different sources (I know, what a pain): Check with the California Department of Industrial Relations which is California Department of Industrial Relations - Home Page OR California Department of Industrial Relations - Page not found

Hopefully CalifDad will come along with more precise info.

OK thanks a lot it seems like there's no way around it. But I will call my OLD high school on Monday.
Damn I really wanted the job too. Do you think the manager is willing to wait for me if I'm 18 a week after I'm supposed to start?

Have him call me - I'll put in a good word for you - :D

(I think he'll be so happy to have someone who wants to work that he'll hold the job. I hope.)
