Will a military drug charge come up if I try to get my teaching certificate
When I was 19 I was caught with drugs in my system. I failed a drug test and was given a bad conduct discharge. Since then, I graduated with honors with a BA in Psychology. Im now looking to get into teaching and coach sports. However, I do not want to begin classes if I can't get certified. Can anyone tell me what will happen because for most jobs, this does not come up on the background check because it is a federal charge.

Usually it would take an actual criminal conviction to be of concern, but since different school districts will set their own guidelines, you might want to look up the website for the school district you are most likely to be working in. If there is any doubt as to whether you would be considered ineligible, you can contact the human resource department for the district and discuss it.

I don't know the answer but this is one scenario:
The application process will probably request military service detail and type of discharge.
The BCD could lead to further request for detail, etc.
Just a possibility. I don't know the application process for school systems.

In all honesty it probably will because the school system will do a Federal Background Check. So many people believe there's no easy way to find out about your time in the military and this is absolutely false!! A federal background check looks for Federal convictions, Military convictions and yes all the possible discharges will show up if it good it shows up and bad it shows up but documentation on your background must be made to explain why in detail that you got a bad conduct discharge. Hey don't sweat it!! Show them what you done after the military ! You turned away from the bad things(Lie if you didn't and obviously show them your college degree!! That will say a lot about you right there.Good luck!!
