    Firing a retained lawyer
    Hello,

I have just retained a lawyer whi is handling my partners immigration process into Canada, whilst to date since after paying the retainer I am not receiving any information from this lawyer as to what we need to complete and what information or documentation is required

I have to ask and even then I get very abrupt answers, I am not satisfied with cousel and considering firing this alwyer as our counsel for this process. How can I best do this and what are my rights.

I have email communication reflecting this abrubness and lack of information

Do I have to still pay my lawyer even though he isn't doing his job as expected?
    Thank you

    YB

Yes, but you have to pay him for what he has done on your behalf. Write him a letter, tell him you wish to sever your professional relationship, ask for a final bill.

Notify him in writing, but you are responsible for the fees of part of what he has done.

By the way, immigration process takes time, and during this period, nothing much to report... did this apply to your case?
