    Having gestational diabetes
    Hi All,

I am having gestational diabetes and 31 week running now. My Dietatian has told me to monitor my blood sugar level after each meal, my only confusion is some time for say one meal my blood sugar level is 130 after 2 hours of meal... but for rest of the day say its within normal range-- so my question is - is this OK ? Or it is hard & fast rule that sugar level should be <120 always after 2 hours of any meal ?

Please help me & I am really confused...
    Thanks

Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule because different doctors will have different cut offs as to when they would be concerned or not. I have seen anywhere from <120 to <140 with the 2 hour level as being OK.
The occasional 130 now and then is not likely to cause concern, especially since the rest seems to be well managed, but best bet would be to ask your doctor what they are looking for. Have you had a consultation with a dietician? That would be a good step if it hasn't been done already. It may just be a matter of changing what you are eating/drinking, a combination of what you are eating, and/or when you are eating. Increasing your daily exercise may also be enough to bring the levels down within the range your doctor is looking for. (may even allow you to eat a bit more freely!)
