I am currently looking into some of verizons broadband access devices and I am curious whether when and if I decide to go with a certain device will it effect the wireless that I already have setup on my laptop. The reason I ask this is I've heard of this happening before.

Can I use both the broadband access when I am not at home and then when I am at home just use the wireless that I have setup without the broadband?

Do the broadband and the wireless network through a router conflict with one another?

These questions and any other useful information will be great, Thank you!

Define "verizon's broadband access device". A tethered cell phone? A device you place a SIM in and uses 802.11(something).

Wireless has many meanings from bluetooth, to 802.11 (something) and cell phone.
Broadband also has meaning with cell phone and internet.
Verizon provides both.

There are so many ways and probably some you have never heard of like a router that you plug in your data enabled cell phone SIM in that allows access through 802.11b or 802.11g. A typical use is for a car full of kids with multiple laptops.

So help us out.

I would be either using Verizon Wireless PC5750 PC Card or Verizon Wireless USB727 Modem. What is the difference between the two and what is best for me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, Core2Duo, 160g hard drive, 2g ram, and running vista home premium. My primary use of the internet is wireless, I do not use a ethernet connection at home. I want to continue to use the wireless at home, however my consideration for the broadband access device is so when I travel for work, or just travel in general I have access to the internet. If you tether, you can be on the phone and internet at the same time with one SIM.

For the latter, you'll likely need two plans and two SIMS, one for data and one for voice if you want to walk and chew gum at the same time.

The USB thing likely plugs into a free USB port, so you loose one of those.

The PC card thing plugs into the PC Card slot that you probably don't know you even have or what to do with it. The standards changed, so make sure you have one.

Both are appendages that have to be removed when putting the laptop back into its storage case.

I'd probably prefer the PC card version because the USB version might be a bit easier to loose.
