At 46 years old, I still have long distance vision like a hawk. However, reading is another story. I Have to hold a newspaper at least 18 inches from my face to clear the blurryness. This has got increasingly worse in the last 4 years or so.
Where is a good place to purchase reading glasses? Eyeglass store? Wal-Mart? Or if I go to eBay, what strength should I look for? If I remember, they start at 150. Any practical advice? Thanks

I would avoid buying glasses from eBay etc.. Go to a specialist so you can get the exact prescription you need. Otherwise you could make it worse.

I had the same problem and purchased a pair rated at 1.00 from Staples a couple of years back.

I recently purchased a set of 4 from BJs for $20. The least they had were 1.25s They work fine and at that price I could leave on in different places in the house. Most of the places that display them have a test that you can use to determine the factor you need.

Yes, depending on your state (in the US) in some states drug stores and variety stores can not sell reading glasses.
But in most, drug stores, walmart, and those everything is a dollar store often have good reading glasses at good prices. You basically try various ones till you find the one that works best. I keep a couple around just in case

You should have an exam eye AT LEAST every two years regardless. It's always best to get prescription reading glasses to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism as well. Otherwise your doctor will tell you what strength is approriate for you. Those little signs on the packaging or the stand they are on, isn't too reliable. You could be doing more damage than good.

I second what ChihuahuaMomma says. Have a sight test with an optometrist and get some reading glasses to your exact prescription. Off the shelf ready readers will not correct all your prescription and can make problems worse.
You will then also be having the health of your eyes checked. There are many eye conditions which do not cause symptoms in the early stages and which could go undetected if you do not have your eyes tested regularly
