Okay, I'm thinking about going to canada for university. But the problem is... I know this is going to sound stupid, but I don't know if they call university that over there or is it college? Basically, in canada, when you turn 18 and you want to continue learning something, do you go to college or university? I know in america you go to college, university is only an even further education course. I just want to know if canada is the same as america or if when you are 18 you go to university like we call it in england.

You'll find the school system in Canada is much more like that in the US than in the UK.
You can do either college or university. In the US and Canada, some colleges will have 2 year degree programs, some may even offer Bachelor degree programs, and they have certificates that can be obtained for various vocational trainings. Some people start the first couple of years at college and transfer to a university for the last 2 years of their degree. Others just go directly to a university the entire time.

One other difference is that it often costs less at a college than a university, class sizes may be smaller, and the campus is often smaller. Much can also depend on what you want to study, and what province you would be in.

I would say that the majority of Universities in Canada are the primary focus for students out of high school. Universities offer everything, bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees. Colleges in Canada do offer those as well in partnership with universities but I would say that most colleges are focused on 'diplomas' or 2 year courses. What is it that you wish to study?

In the U.S. ;
College and University for the most part are on the same level as far as superiority, except for when your talking about Ivy league schools, I.E. Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Yale. When talking about these Universities these are looked at as Universities are looked around the world. The word College and University is used interchangeably; in reality University is a much more stronger institution than most Colleges in the U.S.

In Canada;
University is looked at as it is in europe, Colleges are subprime to university.

Actually for undergraduate studies, the best University in Canada was ranked as Xavier. I go to UNBC which is 4th in country. Our 17th Annual Rankings : Macleans OnCampus
