The fan on my radiator quit working in my 95 dodge caravan. I decided to wire it up to the battery. There were four wires (Black, Green, White/Green, Greening Yellow.) I only wired the Black (ground) and the hot green up to the battery and the fan works fine. After about 10 minutes though the wires burn up the toggle switch. Can someone help me out by letting me know what to do with the remaining wires or how to stop the melting.

Please undo all of the wiring you installed and take your vehicle to a mechanic. You very well could have caused more damage than there was initially.

No. There is no damage that I have caused. The wiring gets hot. That's it. If it is going to burn up it will burned up the switch I also installed on it before anything. So please don't get my hopes up when I see there is an answer to the question by saying I should have taken it to a mechanic. I asked what the other two wires were for,, not what I should do.

You asked how to stop the melting and that sure sounds like "What should I do?" to me. I answered your question: undo your wiring. If they are getting hot enough to melt the switch, then something is wrong. And I'm sorry, but yes, you should have taken it to a mechanic because you're creating a bigger mess for yourself by playing with wiring when you have no idea what it's for.

I am assuming that the reason you are hooking it up direct is because you burned out your temperature sensor switch.

The problem is that the motor is drawing excessive amps to run the motor which means the motor is on the way out. You can put in a heavier duty switch which will stop the toggle switch from melting.

BTW: That answers the question. Burning out the temperature sensor switch is a symptom, not the problem. Just remember that when you burn up your whole wiring harness you will wish that you took this8384's advice.
