Is adding an indirect hot water maker worth it or not?
We heat and get hot water from oil. Our system was installed in 1993. We have a single coil, no tank system of getting hot water. We call for it ,we get it. We use 1000+ gallons of oil/year with 5 at he residence. Our oil co. suggested that we invest in an indirect hot water maker to save some $. The thought being... the water will be there, hot, during the summer months so our boiler doesn't have to kick on throughout the day. It sounds reasonable but won't it have to kick on throughout the day to maintain the water temperature in the tank? Could it really save a significant amount of oil? The quote was about $2,ooo?
    Thanks

Just buy an electric water heater. At the price of oil you will be better off. BTW it is a lot cheaper than adding a indirect tank.
