    Confused about parental rights
I have a 3 week old daughter and the father has not been in the picture since I was two months pregnant. As far as I know he has two other children with two different women and pays minimal support on one and denies the other. I do not know where he is living at this time. Here is my question... I have a good job and do not need public assistance. I am so very blessed to have my job. I would like to know how I would go about filing paperwork to protect us so he cannot come back in several years wanting something from me. He is not on the birth cert.

This so called man is a bit of a con artist and it worries me.. He has not tried to contact me, but who's to say he won't in the future... He wants a free ride and Im afraid he might try
And use my daughter.. He has several warrants for his arrest so chances are he will not show up to court. My daughter deserves to know who her father is and I will make sure she knows and when she is 18 and she wants to look for him I will not stand in her way. But for now I want to protect her from someone who doesn't care about her and may use her to get money or a free ride from me.

Oh.. By the way I am in the state of CA.

Thanks your help is appreciated! God bless.

Since he is not on the birth certificate he currently has NO rights. So there is nothing you can do about it. You can't take away rights that he doesn't have.

That doesn't mean he can't try to get those rights later on. He can, at some point in the future, petition the court for a paternity test and then for his rights as a father. I'm sorry, but there is nothing you can do to prevent this. If he does go to court, you can try to fight it at that point by showing him to be a danger to your child, or that he abandoned you both. You can try going after him for child support to induce him to drop his actions. But until he tries to affirm his rights, there is nothing you can do.
