Need a get a new heat exhanger for my old Lennox unit.
    Hi everyone:

I am looking to see how difficult/expensive it would be to obtain a new heat exchange assembly unit for my old Lennox GCS10-411-50-1P unit. It was installed in 1983 (I know it's ancient) and has performed well. The heat exchanger has a crack in it, and I need to get it fixed before the winter sets in.

I'd rather not change unit entirely; Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Especially if there is a warehouse of old parts somewhere.)

    Cheers

Lennox has all there parts locked up. You have to be a dealer to get the heat exchanger if it is available.

Replacing the unit would make much more sense. Someone is going to want to charge you 900.00 to 1100.00 just for the heat exchanger and probably another 400.00 to 500.00 to put it in. I would not suggest you try to install it yourself and I doubt if a dealer will just sell you one anyway. Next is after you spend the $$$ for that work what happens when the gas valve/motor or some other part fails. That old of a unit is a money pit.

Smart move would be to buy a new 90% to 95% unit. It will save you big $$$ on your heat bill and by the time you pay for the heatX and install you are half way there for a new one.

I just call them the way I see them.

Are you able to take it out and replace? Do you know or have a friend who is in the business? Most parts houses won`t sell to anyone other than a contracter, there are a few temperary short term fixes out there,, some high temp. putty`s but is a lot of work for a short term fix,, you could try online, there are several people out there selling parts to anyone with the money,, but most all the parts come without warranty
