    Laws on home based business
    I want to start my own business I live in Texas. Do I need a license? And tax id number?

    Are you going to be buying items and resale the items to collect tax ?
    Are youi going to have employees, employee indentification number from the IRS then, are you going to have customers coming to your home, zoning and parking laws may apply.
    Are you going to build an atomic power plant ( OK silly) but get the idea a security company business ran from your home will require more permits than a web site development where no one ever comes to your home and everything is done online or though the mail.

    But start with the city on a city business license and go from there
