    Stopping diabetes
    Hello all,

I just got through watching National Health Test on TV. One doctor said that if a person were to eat a typical japanese diet, and with exercise that they would loose weight, would not have to take any diabetic medicines and be a whole lot healtier. Has anyone ever heard of a diabetic changing his diet and exercising to stop the disease from progressing? And I mean medication and all. I wish I could find out exactly how many people have done this?

    Thanks

Nothing will stop diabetes but with proper diet and medication, it doesn't have to progress. I would never advice that a diabetic stop taking medication under any circumstances as kidney damage could occur, which is irreversible.

It depends on the severity of your diabetes and the type of diabetes as well. Some people will be able to go down from insulin injections to pills to manage their diabetes and some will be able to get to a point of not needing even the pills.

For some people, insulin is very much needed, regardless of their diet and exercise... for others, it merely allows them to pretty much continue the lifestyle they always have, and for some of those people, they would rather stick with the injections or pills instead of making lifestyle changes that could very well make them obsolete.

Certainly, as tickle said, you wouldn't want to stop any medication and just go with a diet and exercise program. There are too many variables that can effect your results and health. Definitely, talk to your doctor about your situation to see if these types of changes would offer you even more benefits.
