Harassment from new landlord and inspections
My old land lord passed away February 8th ,2006 he owned the building for as long as I lived here since 1973, I had a good relationship with him. His son and daughter took over and the son dislikes me and is angry that I am under rent control. Anway to make a long story short, I have had pets since the whole time I have lived here. I have no lease, I live in Los Angeles under rent control. I have 2 little birds two medium sized birds (doves) and I do not cage them however they have their places they roost all day and I am very clean and make sure that daily I clean. The landlord mike that does not like me is demanding to do an inspection... further more he is asked me to stop feeding outside birds, via letter and I said that I am fully cooperative. Then he sent me a second notice and said I am still feeding the birds (which I am NOT) when I phoned him he started snickering and said he's just going to have to pay me a visit and inspect the place and then mentioned my birds flying around and then said that people are seeing me feed birds (his family lives here and at least 5 neighbors will back me saying they do not see me feed birds ) I have stopped completely feeding birds although he says I am please help me thank you francine

To protect yourself take pictures of the apartment, document every call from them keep a small tape record close by. They seem to be harassing you. but you have to have evidence. Speak with an attorney about this.

Yes, document well... and to save some bucks; once you have the documentation lined up (dates, events, copies of notices... everything) you might try a complaint to your State Attorney General. They don't charge anything and are fairly effective in many cases.
