I had a problem yesterday with Yahoo IM crashing on startup. After several attempts to solve that problem with restarts of the machine I tried a delete reinstall. The install wizard then crashed on start up. System Restore also crashed on start up.

I uninstalled the last several softwares installed from this past week and start up. Yahoo will no install and the System Restore also starts, but no restore point or calender.

However, Yahoo IM will not show anything in the dialog/sent box that resembles this box. Also I find that RoboForm Data Box with the login info is not showing.

I ran the cmd sfc/scandisk and sfc/scannow. The scan asks for the operating disk to install missing DLL's . The When installed it says it is older than the XP installed. :confused:

I am totally stumped here. Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You would need to get a hold of a newer version of XP disc to do the sfc

What you can try at this point is

Windows Installer Cleanup

This should help

Download windows installer cleanup, open app and go down list till you see apps you have uninstalled and highlight them click remove, this will remove any installer info left behind by programs removed from system.

Now go and make sure all the folders these programs were installed in are also deleted, if not, delete them manually

Then run ccleaner and let it fix all it finds

Download CCleaner 2.11.636 - FileHippo.com
On the right hand side, click download latest version

Now restart PC and try to install your Yahoo again


And if you get a hold a newer version of XP disc, run the sfc again

Seahwk, I downloaded the MS application above. It goes instantly into ActiveX component can not create object: Scripting.FileSystemObject

Go to start and then run and type in: wscript -regserver
And hit enter

Now try to install again

SYMPTOMS

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the setup for WSH remote scripting was performed incorrectly on your Windows XP-based system.

To resolve this issue, register the WScript object by running the wscript -regserver command from a command prompt or from the Run command on the Start menu.

No go Seahwk, still get the same error

Click Start, Run and type:

Regsvr32 wshom.ocx - hit enter
Regsvr32 scrrun.dll - hit enter

Now try to install again

If the above does not help, or if you receive an error message when running the two commands above, then you may need to reinstall Windows Script 5.6 from Microsoft site. The download link is given below for Windows 2000 and XP systems.

That got that part up and running Seahwk. Sorry to say that nothing else has changed. What is interesting to me is that only those programs mentioned seem to be affected. A body would think anything with boxes like this one would be affected.

I installed trillion to see if it would work and does. Yahoo still does not show anything in the dialog box. Right now my big concern is getting roboform back to showing the hidden data.

See if you can get a hold of a newer XP disc and run sfc again

And you have tried to install roboform over your copy now, not unisntall but install over existing

Are you using a free version of roboform, if so see if there is an updated version to download and try to install that

I will look for an updated XP disk. I do have the paid RoboForm and did the reinstall. No good.

After I do the XP sfc I'll give you the results. I do very much appreciate your time and help.

If sfc does not help, a reapir installation would not be a bad idea, it does not reinstall operating system just replaces the system files with the ones on your xp disk - the only thing to do after a repair installation is to go to windows updates and get updates again

Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

I did get the sfc to take, finally. No difference in the roborform. I did another install of it also. I guess the only thing left is a repair of XP. Agree?

It did need a DLL though that comes on a creative installer CD. That I do not have. I simply cancelled on that. Should I look for that and install it someplace. It is a a3d.dll. Thanks again for you time and all.
