When I built my house I prewired a switch to the outside. My plan was to install a ceiling fan with light in and continue on with a flood light. What I want to do is to be able to operate the flood light from the wall switch and operate the ceiling fan and light from the pull strings only. I did this at my old house and I would like to do this here.

Just to be more clear, the ceiling fan and light will be able to be operated on and off from the pull switch even if the wall switch is in the off position.

If all your wires run through the switch box you might be able to accomplish this. You need to get a hot and neutral to the fan, unswitched. Do you have both hot and neutral passing through the switch box? What colors and how many wires run to the fan?

I have three wires... White, black, and ground. It will be like this... Switch then fan, and then flood light. This is how the old house was wired I just need to figure out how to keep the fan hot and allow the switch to work the flood light only.

How do things operate now? I'm still a little bit confused. Is everything already wired in place, but not controlled the way you want it?

Looks good if they're running new wires. However I'm not sure if they're dealing with something already installed or not.

You are right, the Op said he had the house pre-wired during construction. He may or may not be able to pull more wire depending on what was used to start with.

Just great. Having a good day. Had to replace a pressure regulating valve today, the stop valve held, didn't have to go to the street, unbolted the old one and put in the new. Didn't have to re-pipe anything. Nothing leaked, got paid, came home and took a nap. Can't remember when something went without a single hitch.

Me to, got up, drank coffe, read paper, did not get paid one cent, hours on AMHD. Its called retirement. Actuall do start a new job in 7 weeks so got to go rest now.
