The ethernet port on my laptop does not work. Currently I have to use my USB port for connecting to my DSL modem but I want to connect through the ethernet so that I can use a wireless router. How can I fix my ethernet port?

That depends on a few things:

You are the only one who is certain if the laptop is Windows, Macintosh or Linux though.

IF the problem is a consequence of a hardware issue it will probably require the services of a repair shop to get the existing port working. A replacement of the entire main circuit board may be necessary with some models. That may be expensive if the laptop is out of warranty.

You may be able to purchase adapters that will allow you to make an wired Ethernet connection through one of your laptop's USB ports. If your laptop doesn't already have wireless capabilities there are wireless adapters for USB ports as well. When purchasing either adapter make sure it's compatible with whatever operating system your laptop is using. If you are willing to chance having to repeat the procedure later you might be able to persuade a friend or shop to attach the wireless router to their computer long enough to configure the router so that you don't have to buy an add on Ethernet adapter.

Post further information about the computer make and model so someone with the same computer and/or operating system can advise you on how to refresh the driver settings for your Ethernet port. Include a description of any measures you may have already taken to reinstall the port or refresh the drivers.

Umm this doesn't make sense. If you want to use wireless then why do you need an ethernet port? If your laptop has built in wireless then use that. If the built in wireless doesn't work, you will most likely have to use a woreless NIC, either USB or using a slot.

I have to same problem and I purchased a USB adapter but it freezes my computer.
