    Can't Sleep Because of Noise!
So I sleep in the basement (like any other teenager) and my room is below my parents.
They tend to work late and get up really early in the morning and the walls creak and my door rattles. It's a nightmare! I can hear their footsteps like music! Except it's not music to my ears rather stress! I get to sleep really late because my parents keep the TV on high what am I supposed to do! I'm tired of going upstairs and telling them to lower it... there's just so many things I am getting stress from, I can't sleep anymore!

Anyone know anything I could use (not pills to put me to sleep) like earplugs or something (a product) so that I don't hear noise at night

I've already used earplugs by the way... they don't work... I NEED HELP! I also tried music but leaving the earplugs in my ears bothers me so I don't fall asleep...

    HELP ME!

Run a box fan. (not fanning on you, though)

Perhaps, you need to evaluate how many hours you are sleeping... don't stay in bed for longer than 8 hours. Every day, you have to get exercise so you are really tired and can sleep soundly.

That should take care of your problems.

Get some earplugs and a big fan. Put it on high and this will block out all noise and help you sleep. Good luck@

Just make sure you don't sleep through a smoke detector or other emergency.

Try to find some music which makes you fall asleep (the Downward spiral by NIN works for me!) And put that on your CD player. If you work out how to use the timer function you can usually get them to switch themselves of once the CD is done. It can block out the background noise and help you nod off. I used to do that when I was in uni halls and the walls were paper thin and people came and went at every hour of the day and night.

Another thing is to practice 'sleep hygiene.' It sounds ridiculous but it involves a few common sense methods. You need to establish a routine which you stick to before bed so that you body gets prepared for sleep. It can be reading a book, having a bath or anything relaxing- exercise just before bed is often not a good idea though.

    Sleep Hygiene

My other thought is revenge. My Dad used to employ this when I came in late and noisy as a teenager. If I woke him up at night he'd wake me up at 5 am. Perhaps giving you parents and experience of what it is like might help them understand your problems. But judge whether this would be effective in your parents personalities. Many parents would just get really angry and it would make the situation worse.

I hope you get some sleep!

One final thing- have you tried different types of ear plugs? I found that some work much better than others.

Anyone recommend any type of earphones or products that keep everything around you silent? Besides the fan? I want something in my ears or something. (not music though.. it just keeps me awake even if it's classical.)
