    NY State Estate
    How long must you legally keep relevant paperwork on an estate once it has been closed ? This estate was in NY State.

    The Court has a copy of what was filed. I'd keep my own copies for seven years. I don't think there's any "must." Depends on who/when/where the estate is contested - and if.

    I just keep my personal papers - I'm in NYS - for 7 years. Law firms "usually" keep them for 10. I believe the NYS Corporation Law requires 7.
