The mother of my daughter has not been in her life until 9 months ago. My daughter is 9 years old. She came and took her out of school withiut telling anyone and took her to her home in Louisiana. I got my daughter back 3 weeks after she was taken and am now in a custody battle with her mom. Her mother and I were never married. At 7 months old her mother brought her to me and left her with me and never returned. I have cared and raised my daughter ever since. I had to leave her in my brothers care for 2 years while I served time in jail, she was 5 years old when I went in. The courts have given her mother visitation and right now she is with her mother for the month of July. Today I received a phone call from my daughter saying that is is going to be baptised in Louisiana, I also head her mother in the background laughing like crazy. My question is, since we are in a custody battle for my daughter, can I stop her from being baptised in the chruch that her mother goes to? Don't get me wrong, I want my daughter baptised but I don't follow the religon that her mother does. I want my daughter baptised Cathlolic.

I know this question was written more than a month ago but I just came across it. I'm sure the situation has already occurred and my guess is that your daughter was baptized at the mothers church right? I am interested in knowing what happened.

I know it's a bit late, but as long as the two of you have shared custody or joint custody rights and there is no main time parent like she lives with you for more than 8 months out of the year from now on, then I don't believe that you can do anything to stop it. Maybe try calling a lawyer and see if he finds a loophole

There is not a "catholic" baptism, any more than Angican, or Luthern or Methodist. There is just batpism, in fact the Catholic Church will honor all of the baptims of any of the christian churches.

I will be somewhat rude, you had the child all this time, and never did it, why now, when the mother is going to, it is a issue.

You are correct, my daughter should have been baptised long ago, I have myself to blame for that. Her mother did not have her baptised, come to find out, she was using that as a way to push my buttons and she is using our daughter as a pawn in her game.
