Hi you guys. I've had a crappy day. There are tons of flies in my house, more than I've ever seen, it's an epidemic. Anyway, as you know, my bunny's are indoors, and the flies love moist areas, alas, their poo and pee is moist. I clean their cages every second day, but I guess that wasn't enough. Today when I went to clean their cages I found maggots, yes, that's right, maggots.
Going to the store soon to pick up bleach, new bedding, new toys, you name it. Also picking up some screen, going to make an enclosure that will fit on top of their cages and prevent those nasty flies from getting in.
Scary thing is that they can get something called fly strike, where the flie larva actually gets inside and eats the bunny from the inside out, it's of course fatal.
I'm doing all I can, always have, it's so upsetting, I always keep their cages clean, to find maggots is just so alarming and unsettling.
Sorry for the gross story. :(

Yes they will, but I'm worried about my bunnies.
Not much I can do but hope, if the larva got inside then they will be dead within 24 hours. I called our vet, because there is a treatment, but the usual vet that specializes in rabbits, he's on vacation. No one else in our town knows anything about rabbit care, they're considered an exotic animal. :(
I'm doing all I can do. I spent the day checking their skin for larva, washing Oreo's bum because poo sticks to her fur, which is a huge fly attractant, and cleaning cages. Tonight I'm scrubbing all the cages down with bleach and building the screens. Arrrrrr, I hate flies! :(

Oh honey, I'm so sorry about the bunnies... but before using bleach, which is toxic and not biodegradeable, please try Quick&Brite to clean, or OrangeClean - these are safer and really clean well. Quick&Brite can even be used on skin with sores because it is an enzyme based cleanser - I even use it on my hair and soak my feet in it.
As for larva in the tummy, have you tried straight Gin or Scotch? Sometimes an eyedropper of this can save a pet's life too. Call a Vet hotline or even a Zoo (they should be able to help with all the different animals they have to take care of). I used it on my Hamsters and G-Pigs when they were sick a lot of times.
Anyhooo, I hope I was able to help a little.
Been online too long and stupid body is on strike now, so I'll say night-night to all for now. Again, thanks so much for my 'special thread'.

Sneezy cat
[ 2 Answers ]
I just found out that my cat had some kind of allergy and well she had an itchy lesion on her head, the vet said it wasn't anything serious and that all I had to do was put an ointment on her wound. Almost a week later she is now sneezing uncontrollably and I am really worried that this could be a...
