Here's my question. I have two wall switches and two sets of wires coming into the ceiling box, each one with a black, white, red and ground set of wires. My goal is to use both switches to simply turn the power on and off the same way they worked with the old fan/light that were on pull chains. The remote receiver has only white, black and ground on the hookup side. How do I wire it so the both on/off switches work, and I assume the remote will still work as long as there is power going to the unit. Is that right?

You can't use both switches AND the remote. You will have to pick one switching option or the other.

Okay, I guess I'd better simplify and use only one switch with the remote instead of two switches without the remote. But that still leaves the extra red wire in the ceiling, which I'm thinking is a hot wire, since I blocked off the red one and hooked up the black to black and white to white on the remote receiver (and the corresponding four colors on the other side of the remote receiver to the fan). The light didn't come on and the circuit breaker never flipped.

Cap off the extra hot wire (from the second switch) in the ceiling and connect the remote receiver to the other hot wire (black) and neutral (white) and connect the other side of the receiver as instructed. It should work from one switch and the remote.

All right! Thanks ceilfanrepair, I appreciate your help. One last question. Is it possible that one of the two wall switches is on the end of a circuit closed at the ceiling box? I have tried both sets of wires and the fan and lights seems to only work with one switch and not the other. Trouble is, the switch that works now is in the less handly location of the two. Do you have a suggestion as to how to "power" the other outlet and still use the remote?

Ok I looked back at your original post.. . Am I correct in assuming you have two red wires, two black wires, two white wires, and two ground wires in the ceiling? Or just one of each? The phrasing confuses me. Maybe TK knows what you are talking about and will jump in.

Yes, I have two lines each with a black, white, red and ground. I want to use a second switch on these lines that doesn't seem to have power now to electrify the fan and lights.

Ok, how were they hooked up before you wired the fan? Ignore what I said earlier in the thread, I didn't realize you had TWO of every color.
