After I retired almost 7 yrs ago, the gov't sent me a letter stating I owed them 428.00 that they said I was overpaid. I wrote back and contested the o/p. I filed a waiver. This week, I rec'd a letter stating that my waiver was denied. Over 6 yrs have passed. My question, " is there a statute of this on debts owed to the gov't". Thank you for any help.

What is this debt from? I don't understand why the Government thinks you owe money and not your employer. Or was the Government your employer?

I believe it varies by State. Or are you talking US?

    Need more info.
