Suing a Canadian Company
Hello everyone, I'm in a heap of trouble from a bad investment deal I made 2 years ago.
Back in February of 2006 I paid 22,500 for a chance to participate in an investment opportunity with about 20 other people. The investment was in high tech websites that were supposed to bring in income from ad revenue. The original plan was to implement over 2,000 websites that were going to be used for promoting products from affiliates like Clickbank, AdSense, etc To this date, none of us has seen a single penny from the transaction. I have a list of everyone's names that participated in the investment. My question is this, this guy who ran a hosting company in Canada set up the project, and collected money from people all over the world raising over 125,000 for this failed investment. I live in Los Angeles, and I am the second largest stake holder in the venture and I need to sue this guy but he lives all the way in Ontario Canada. Is there anyway I can sue him here from Los Angeles, or do I have to file a claim with a lawyer in Ontario? Any advice would help as I am 21 and struggling not to go bankrupt from this. |

I think it would be best if you hired an attorney in Ontario familiar with Canadian law, which may vary a little from yours. But, if I remember correctly, and I can't recall this guy's name, it was in the paper a year ago that he had already been apprehended and no one recouped their money. Every penny was spent on fast cars, luxury trips and houses.

You will have to file in Ontario unless he has offices in the US.
But an investment is just that, risk, so what proof doyou have that he did not open web sites, and do what he was supposed to do. Did he have a set wage the company paid him ( paid hisself) what accounting proof of wrong doing do you have ? |

Well for one he refuses to show the accounting records, secondly he was obligated under contract to deliver 2,000 Top Level Domains, 2 years later he has delivered 100 with no estimates of when the other 1,900 websites will be delivered. |
