I'm a little scared of bikes myself. Not of the bike, but like you mentioned, the other drivers that don't respect people riding a bike. My Uncle and his (then) wife, were almost killed too on my Dad's Honda, when I was young. They lost the bike on gravel though. It was spring, and the first nice day, and the city hadn't yet cleaned the roads of the gravel they had put down for the ice and snow. They rounded a sharp corner and lost control. My Uncle was in traction in the hospital for six months, and now has steel plates and pins everywhere in his body.
So, I'm a little leary (or should I say scared to death) of bikes for that reason. Two of my ex's (A&N ;) ) had bikes, and would always get ticked off at me because I wouldn't go riding with them. I did once, just around the city with "N", and I was probably more of a danger to him driving, because I was shaking so hard I was distracting him, and squeezing the air out of him. Either that or he was getting really excited because I was shaking so bad the bike was vibrating! LOL!!!
So yeah, I'm a liiiittttllle bit terrified of being on a bike! I would like to have the "hair blowin in the wind" feeling...but I opt to be stuck in a fibreglass box with wheels!! :p :D
Wow, you had a horrible experience losing your friend on the bike. I am so sorry. Gosh, I hope my post doesn't make everyone too sad here at the Sanitarium. I guess we all have horror stories and I was fortunate when the truck hit me. The cop told the driver that he was citing him for "failure to yield". The guy said, "I stopped at that stop sign" (maybe he did but he tried to rush across the intersection and there was no time to get stopped with traffic on my left, high curb on the right, just had to turn to the right and hit him sideways or hitting him head one would have probably propelled my friend right over the truck. The bike hooked onto the truck then as he was trying to stop, the bike let go and there I was sliding down the street on my back). The cop told the guy in a very disgusted voice, "You are suppose to wait until there is nothing coming!!!" The guy started to pick up my bike out of the road. Daddy had always told me when in a wreck, never move the vehicle so I holler, "Get your hands off my bike!" :o Well, he did! LOL
One friend of mine ran into a fence, knocked his nose off, another couple from high school missed a curve and he was killed, she was injured but not badly. My sister ran my brother's bike through a barbed wire fence. A guy and my boyfriend lost one on some loose gravel but was not hurt too badly. Man, guess I have been more fortunate than I realize. Not long ago, a guy was doing a wheely at midnight through a light in downtown Tulsa, huge intersection and got hit and killed. Bikes are hard to see anyway sometimes and his light was straight up in the air so even harder to be seen.
One funny story: Just after I had learned to ride the baby Honda, I was so excited and wanting to learn all I could as fast as I could. My brother-in-law said, "Petie (family nickname, let's not let that one stick here though, k?), sit way back on the back of the seat, ok, now pull in the clutch, put it in gear, now reve that engine and let go of the clutch!" Well, trusting soul that I am, listened ever so intently and did just as he said... when I popped the clutch, I was doing a wheely, then slid off the back of the bike and was running behind it trying not to let it crash. So much for trust... at least I was in the front yard, not on gravel. Oh by the way, he is no longer part of our family!! LOL He wasn't trustworthy in more ways than one!
Hope that little funny story lifts some of the sadness. I must be more careful however!! Reading about these stories will make me more cautious. One tends to feel indestructable at times, huh!

Starty, that was so sweet!!
In answer to your question... ah... no?? LOL
Walking, driving cars, skateboarding, all can be dangerous but bikers do run a risk. When my son comes home and wants to ride the Rebel, he must wear the helmet at all times, his kids have to wear a helmet when he takes them even around the yard on it, and he gets cautions out the wazooooooooooo before he takes off on it. He doesn't ride often which increases his chances of not being aware enough of the dangers.
But I got to tell you, there is so much wonderment that comes to me as I ride and I just see all the beauty of nature along the way in a different light than I do while riding in a car. For me, got to ride that bike!! :p

Thanks Starty, I can't believe that my baby is 6 years old already. Sigh, time sure flies by fast. :(
She's so happy, she got a webkinz for her birthday, a cute little golden retriever, it's so cool. :)

Morning Lil Bro, how are you today? Wow 6:30pm it's 9:30am here in Canada. My day is just starting and it's a gloomy, cold, yucky August day.
I hope the weather is better for you. :)

Lil Bro, good morning, its 8:30 here... ;)
Reb, Jett has a cool battery powered one, and I am sure that it won't be the end, he needs more power! LOL
I love bikes too, just not so good at NOT slamming them into fences, don't laugh, it was fun... (more than once):):) Have a great day out today Reb...
Alty, they grow so fast, I can't feel myself right now, my oldest has a girlfriend, Davy is in Middle school, and starting to really show it! Jett and Max are a year apart but they seem as if they aren't put together... I mean they are so good, so smart, but they do the stupidest things... like take capri suns and step on them, touch stuff they shouldn't, they are so rough with everything, it is great, they are boys. That's fine with me, we live in the country, but it seems as if they need to just STOP, DROP, and THINK... from now on before they get hurt or something, or make mama cry cause she has to many messes to clean up.
I hope you all have a nice day. I am going to need to bake, I feel a bit down for some reason...
Reb, your picture was a nice gift this morning, seriously, I say make it NUMBER ONE here. I loved it, thanks

 Married, with kids? :p
Thanks Rebbie. Yes, I can't believe that 6 years have gone by since I brought that little bundle home. It seems like just yesterday that I held a newborn Sydney in my arms. She was such a good baby, and a real cutie.
I'm going to be making an angel food cake later today. Tonight is just the kids, Wiggy and me. We'll be having her party after school starts, so she can invite all her friends. :)
Jared's birthday is on September 4, he'll be 10 then. Time flies by so very fast, for all of us. ;)

I know how you feel - I too love riding along as passenger on a bike! Believe it or not, it's less painful to ride the bike than sitting in a car and going around corners - the back actually feels good when I ride. And the scenic routes just still take my breath away. Whether on a horse, bike, scateboard, or anything else - as long as you have fun in your life - do it! If we all just worried about getting hurt, we should never even leave home or get in the shower or bathtub - a lot of accidents can happen there too.
So, the moral is - enjoy life, it's too short, and have fun when you can.
Going to be off more than on for the next few days due to health issue, but will keep in touch.
Lots of love and hugs!

Got to hide the drinks. The wine too. Parents aren't drinkers... and heavily frown upon it :(

Did I miss anything?
You see... my parents didn't visit me the entire time I was in college (I was... 30 minutes away)... and now, all of a sudden... they're coming!!

Sneezy cat

I just found out that my cat had some kind of allergy and well she had an itchy lesion on her head, the vet said it wasn't anything serious and that all I had to do was put an ointment on her wound. Almost a week later she is now sneezing uncontrollably and I am really worried that this could be a...
