    Why would my breaker keep popping after I installed a new fan/light in my bathroom
    I purchased a Nutone, ceiling fan for my bathroom. Light/Fan/Nite light. I have also urchased a nutone wall switch plate with 3 on/off. Its requiring me to connect a red wire, wich I don't have. I only have black/white coming out the wall. So I just eliminated the night light. I comes on fine, but when I shut the switch off, then turn it back on, the breaker pops. I've been at this 1/2 hr project for 6 hours now. Any suggestions.:confused:

    I don't know the answer, but with electric wiring, make sure you know what you're doing and don't go to bed with a switch that you know... or suspect... is not right.
    Make sure, at least, that the switch is grounded.
    The information about its hook-up from the manufacturer should contain information about the wiring needed for hooking up properly. If it doesn't --I'd be surprised.
    Since other switches contain only 2 wires... black and white, and they direct a red wire be part of the hook-up, then you have to assume the two will work.
    Calling an electrician will no doubt get you "Well, I can come out and look into it"... or
    "I''d better look at that, you don't want to cause a fire"... and with that a very large bill.
    Instead, try calling a person... better yet, go to your local Home Depot or other large block store and go directly to the electrical department and speak to the person there while standing under such a fan as you have.
    You might make yourself out to be either well informated about such matters... or make yourself out to be the villiage idiot and you don't know anything and let him show first hand how to solve your problem.
    Just make sure the guy (or woman) you're talkking to can assure you she/he knows what they're talking about.

    Ok, first thing to do is to turn the breaker to where you working OFF. Pick up a Voltage detector to make 100% sure its not hot. Before I try to answer this is it a multiple switch outlet the wires are going to?

    OK, what wires do you have an where??

    If all you have is a black and white at the wall box you will definitely need to run new wires. With just that you can have ONE function, NO more.
