Downloading from digital camera to PC
    Hello to all my readers!

I recently bought a Fuji Finepix Z10 fd digital camera and I think that it's great value. Not being part of the computer generation I'm easily baffled by the sophistication of it all. I try and tell myself that the problem lies with the instruction manuals being badly translated...
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate if some kind person could tell me how to download "selected pictures only" to my PC.
What is happening at the moment is that each time that I take new photos, I download and I get all the previous photos as well.
Obviously, I could format my SD every time that I download, but I like to look through my photos from time to time, to show folk...
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hi David,

I understand your frustration with user manuals. We can help with this!

In order to help, we need to know what software came with the camera - what software starts up and offers to download your photos from the camera to your computer when you connect your camera to your computer. Then we can help you with configuring this software to only copy new photos to your computer.

    Hi!
Thanks for getting back so quickly!
The software that I got with the package is "Software for Finepix - BZ version 5.4a for windows".
    All the best.

Oh dear. This is going to be difficult, as they don't have a user manual on their website. It's possible that their software doesn't have a function to do what you want, and if there is a function I can't tell you how to configure it.

I suggest you use a different software program - there are dozens (or hundreds) of programs that can transfer your photo files, view and edit them. If you are on a Mac, try iPhoto. If you are on Windows, try Irfanview, Picasa or the Windows Media Viewer. I prefer Irfanview. You need to configure Irfanview to recognize your camera when you plug it in by opening Irfanview and going to the following menu location: > Options > Properties > Extensions > Miscellaneous > ( there is a box to tick off ) Add Irfanview as application for USB events (Scanner, digital cameras, etc.). When you plug in the camera Irfanview will start and bring up an import dialog. There should be an option to not import duplicate files (files that are already in your computer). Make sure it is importing to the same location as your current files, otherwise you will get a duplicate set the first time you import from your camera.

If you have a wireless router you may also want to try the EyeFi SD card. This will automatically transfer files from your camera to your computer wirelessly, and also upload to your choice of 2 dozen photo sharing sites such as Flickr, Facebook, Smugmug, etc. This is the easiest way - set it up then forget it!

Do you have a SD reader? If you don't get one!

Then all you need to do is stick the SD card in the reader and copy the files you want to your PC by using drag and drop. You can use the Thumbnails view to see what the pics are.
