Why can't I access internet when I move away from the router?
Router is a d-link and, unfortunately, I know little about them. I had full access yesterday, until an electrical strong during which we lost power. Now, I can access internet from the room where the router and the tower are, but cannot access it from either a MAC or Dell laptop despite indications that I have a signal and are connected. Please help

Does the laptop connect when it is in the room or right beside the router?

Yes - when I am in immediate proximity, the connect is made and I have no problems. If I walk out the door of the room with laptop in hand, the access is terminated.

Assuming the wireless configuration (transmit power level) on each of the devices has not changed due to one or more power cycles or other reasons, I'd be investigating lightning induced antenna/circuit damage. You're probably looking at replacing the router, but if you have another local wireless source, such as a free hotspot, you could verify the range of each laptop's wireless adapter first.

Turns out the storm killed the router. Thanks for the responses! I'm off to get a new one.
