I don't know which path to take .
Hey guys :) , I have a slight problem regarding what to do with the next few years coming up. Hope you can take some time to read the ongoings of the past year in my life.
    Here it goes... :p
Last year, I finished college (doing my A-levels to get me to uni) and I secured the place I wanted at a top university and I some how managed to get a scholarship to go. Great times! Or so I though. I was a little unsure as to if I would be happy there as the uni is very close to home and I sort of expected the 'big leap to uni' thing. Not only that but the course I chose doing Marketing, was a totally different subject to what I was used to. But I thought 'sod it' and went!
So I moved in and what not, and fresher week began... awesome! But the fun only lasted for about 6 days, on the 7th day of fresher week I had an accident and dislocated my knee falling. I was out of uni for weeks. It was such a struggle to go through uni without experiencing what everyone else was doing. The uni tried to tell me to leave as they thought I would fail and should just pack it in. but I persisted and stayed.
However, only weeks after I ended up in hospital with DVT (blood clot) in my leg where it was in plaster. So my recovery time was extended as I had to be put on medication, which meant I couldn't drink a drop of alcohol of six months (first year of uni + no alcohol and partying = bad times):(
but I carried on. I passed the year to get on to a single major course, however the course I want to do requires a higher grade because it's a double major (advertising and marketing), so I have to resit one of my exams. So that's what I'm doing... trying to get on this other course. But after the crazy year I've had part of me is desperate to take a gap year and travel. Not only that but I don't even know if the course will be right for me if I do get on to it, as I'm more creative and into graphics, art and media. I'm soooo confused!
do I carry on with uni for the next two years, and always know I missed out on so much? Do I move to another uni to do something more up my street and start afresh? Do I go traveling, take a break and let all these questions incubate in my mind?
I would love just some advice from someone outside the situation. If you have read all this am very grateful and thank you for your time! Hope to hear from you, thanks x

If I were you I would go for the career I want most. If you are majoring in something that doesn't make you happy then go for what will make you happy. Do you really want to be stuck with a career that you don't like. I don't think you should take a year off to travel because in most cases when people do that they end up not going back to the uni. I hope this helps you out!!

I agree... now is the time to try different things that interest you. I'd also look into courses that focus on what you ultimately would like to be involved in; what interests you. I've known many students who changed courses while at school (some of my own kids included!). If you know already that the marketing direction is not for you, it makes no sense to continue in it.
I'm big on travel as well however, and know full well that it can be difficult to travel once you get settled in a career or, if you put it off too long you may have even more responsibilities, such as a family. There are pros and cons with any path you take, but you can really accomplish what you would like to.
You could plan to finish school first (with the course you really want to be taking), and then travel before you get deeply involved in a career (although you get far more holiday time in the UK so that may not be as much of an issue). You could take the year, or even just half a year, and do some traveling, with the knowledge and commitment that you will get back to school upon your return. Either way, you are young enough that you do have the luxury of time to try different things.
