    Shower pan removal
Does anyone know how to remove what appears to be a metal shower pan from a 1954 ranch style house. I have removed sheetrock and nails from rim of pan. This is original pan!

I'm going t6o put up some shower drains that we used back in the 50's. I'm assuming that you have cast iron drainage as we didn't get into plastic here until the 60's. Do you recognize any of them? Let me know, Tom

I believe it is cast iron with a piece of galvanized stubbed in to the drain. Hard to tell if any of those are the drain do to the pan being on top of it. I'll try to take a better look at it. Thanks Jeff.

Then it's leaded in with a lead and oakum poured and caulked joint. To remove a poured lead and oakum joint take a 3/8" drill bit and drill a few holes down past the lead and into the oakum.. Push a screwdriver under the lead ring and lever it up. Once it's free you can began to peel the lead ring out. Now pick out the oakum and you can pull the joint apart. Good luck, Tom
