Hello everyone I am 26 years old with a 6 yr old son and I need help with an issue: Myso called parents are trying to get grandparent visitation for my son they want a whole bunch of days like; everyother weekend for the whole weekend, christmas or christmas eve, easter, birthday or day after, two weeks in summer and some school breaks... isn't that a little much I mean 2 weeks without my son I don't think so.. and these weekends I already know what they entail a lot of drinking and partying and no supervision of my child see he's ADHD and very active my parents just go to a family members house and start drinking I've seen it first hand and then they will drive home like that WITH MY CHILD and I just don't want him in that situiation or in that household its drama there I got kicked out of my parents house because I refused to sign over custody of my son crazy I know my parents are like that they don't think I can do it on my own well I've been on my own before and I'm doing it again I've been out of there since April and still going strong and I just got served these papers stating they want visitaion now ERER:mad: any questions and answers would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to having a good discussion on here and hope to get some help with this issue.. thanx and nice to meet you all

In my opinion... I'm not sure but I don't think that Grandparents have any rights. It may depend on which country and even which state you live in. Certainly over here (UK) both parents are awarded joint custody with the mother having day-to-day care of the child(ren). (Unless one of the parents want nothing to do with them)

This is how my separation went, both our lawyers explained that unless one of us was unfit to look after the children the court would award joint custody.

Maybe if you were the drinker and socialising every night then it may be possible to grant the GPs some sort of custody, but with what you have stated about their socialising, it doesn't sound likely that a court would award unsupervised access.

Personally I don't think you have anything to worry about, but I would seek some sort of legal advice.

Grandparent rights vary from state to state. You need to get an attorney who can help you prepare a case against the grandparents. It does sound like they aree asking for a lot of time.

I live in AZ and yeah IM NOT a drinker I quit cold turkey but when it comes to financially Im not in the best shape will that even be a problem or issue in the case? And Im NOT with his mother I have a very loving and caring fiancée that cares for him as if he was her own his mother used drugs and gave him 2 my parents because I was overseas in Kuwait at the time because I was prior military and yeah my fiancée doesn't drink either we don't do any type of drugs and we are expecting another little one maybe 2 I don't know we will find out soon enough

Thank you scott Gem I was thinking I had to go about doing that and all the time I look up lawyers against or fighting grandparent rights I get lawyers supporting grandparent rights I don't know what else to look up

If they are familiar with grandparent rights they can represent either side.

OK but on their website it looks as if they are supporting grandparents should I make a consultaion with them.?
