    Summons
    I'm beind sued by a credit card company received a summons from the sheriff it states that I need give an answer or other appropriate response in writing to the complaint within 20 days I can't afford an attorney or to pay the debt I am unemployed at this time.what should I do about responding to the summons? I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be great

    Do you have a legal defense? Is the debt out of Statute (by your State's laws)?

    Inability to pay is (unfortunately) not a defense.

    If you owe the debt and were legally served (and it would appear you are) you can delay Judgment by demanding proof of the debt - but if the creditor is correct you may be wasting your time. We have people who posted that they demanded proof of the debt, the creditor couldn't locate it and the Judgment was not granted.

    Is the amount correct? Is it your debt? Is it within the Statute?
