They are programmed to come on every so many thousand miles.
You can take it to the garage to have it checked over and have the light turned off or if you are positive nothing is wrong with it just live with it for the time being.

The Service Engine Soon light is different than a maintenance reminder light.
If your light came on, likely the problem is unrelated to the oil change.
However, you should have this checked out. Finding out why that light came on is important.
Personally, I wouldn't take it back to the shop that did the oil change because:
    a) They may have inadvertently caused the light and could possibly try to hide their error.
    b) If they intentionally triggered the light, you'd be better served to have someone else find out the facts.
Are you having any actual drivability concerns? Misfire or rough running?
Keep in mind, the Service Engine Soon (SES) or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) or Check Engine Light (CEL) is motivated by emissions. If there is something on your vehicle that has failed or is functioning outside it's normal range, that could cause the light to come on and having just been in for service is only coincidental.

Definitely take it to a TRUSTED mechanic (ask family and friends for recommendations).

Also: Did the light come on when you *first* turned on the car after getting your oil changed? Did it happen the next day, the next week?
