    Hello Andy !

    You may know that 2 + 2 = 4. You have learned that at school with calculating.

    But only if you know WHY 2 + 2 = 4 , than you understand the basics of calculation.

    Knowing is related to learned facts.
    Understanding is related to why things are what they are !

    You can know something, but to UNDERSTAND it is something different completely.

    Knowing is simple, you realize it's there, and acknowledge it's existence without further thinking

    But to understand is to realize something, acknowledge it, and know why or how it is what it is.

    ^ these answers are as simple and understandable as I can put it so that even I can understand what the hell I'm talking about. Hope this helps!
