    Bank Account Levy
Question: A creditor levied my bank account; I was told that the levy doesn't have an "expiration date"... in other words, it lasts forever. Does the credit company have to submit another judgment against a new bank account (2 years later, another bank) or does the initial levy cover all transactions, accounts, income (I've not been working) if I started getting a paycheck, etc? In addition, it's apparent that the only way to get rid of the levy is to pay the creditor so they will lift it but they've never accepted anything lower than 1/2 the amount owed even while I'm collecting SSI and have no income. I have been told I am judgment proof and haven't been able to get free legal help. I cannot contact the creditor myself because they make me ill. Is it ever possible to get someone to negotiate an even lower acceptable payment? Other debts have been wiped off my credit report after 7-10 years. Is there a life expectancy to this debt? Does it ever become worthless to the collection agency to keep my file open?

You need to tell the bank that you are on SSI and show them something from SS stating that they are not allowed to collect your ssi.

I still need help. Thanks for your response. I'm aware of only SSI deposits money, co-mingling, etc. That information was more for purposes of explaining my reasons for not being able to negotiate an amount I could promise to pay the creditors and how far-reaching this levy will be on re other accounts in the future, etc.

I think they can collect indefinitely until it is paid off that is why it is important to notify your bank. They should be able to straighten it all out
I am sure somebody here can help you better. I am not familiar with it all.

Thanks, but again, I spoke to the bank 2 years ago when it happened. I know SSI money is not to be levied. I'm concerned about any other money I would need to deposit in the future.
