    G4 visa and marriage
    Hello:

I married somebody a few years ago and came to the US on a G4 visa. We are no longer together and I would like to apply for a visa and join my new husband on H4 visa. How do I go about cancelling my G4 visa which is still valid?

    Thanks for your time.

First of all, you must divorce the principle G-4. You will have 60 days after the divorce is final to return to your home country.

You can remarry and apply for H-4 at the US consulate in your home country.

If you are already divorced, your G-4 is automatically revoked even it's not expired, which means you are already out of status. If this is your current situation, get an immigration attorney asap.

    Dear lawanwadee.

Thank you very much lawanwadee. We are divorced and I am already in my home country. Do I need to go to the embassy and cancel the G4 visa first before applying for the H4?
Also, do I need to bring the divorce decree along with my new marriage ceretificate to the embassy for my new visa.

    Thanks for your time.

No, you don't have to cancel G-4, it's automatically terminated when your divorce was final.

You need to submit notarized copies of both divorce decree and new marriage certificate along with other documents when you apply for new visa.
