    When your lawyer becomes your non-paying commercial tenant
    [F]Our law firm -- became a commercial tenant of ours, then breached a their lease and vacated their large offices 3 years early, when there was a personality conflict with one of the 2 partners and their only other client a local municipality. We have requested the over 60k we are owed repeatedly, and now find ourselves being sued by our lawyers in excess 90k for moving expenses etc. Does anyone know if there is any practical method to proceed or will a law firm (especially our own law firm) be able to avoid paying and chase our tales for decades:confused:

    1. I don't understand the basis of their suit against YOU? You aren't the client they had a conflict with, correct?

    2. Why are they still "your lawfirm"?

    My guess, from you description, is that they're trying to intimidate you. It's shocking and scary to be sued, and even more so to be sued by attorneys. It sounds to me like they're trying to bully you. Again, from your description, I can't see anything you mentioned that would give them any grounds to sue YOU. They breached the lease - assuming you did not breach the lease - THEY owe YOU damages! Find new counsel!!

    Nature of suit is BS they, have lots of reasons they should not pay; keep in mind they have signed 4 leases in this same building and never brought any issues up prior to their "internal issues" they claim no heat, booked contractor to come in then where no allowed in unit unless I attended personally to supervise then I came in to inspect, but apparently I was in sexually inappropoiate with assistant(total BS) and then they would make up every excuse why they didn't have to pay anything, finally after a year of this, they left with 3 years remaining in there lease they went from 2000 square ft to 450 square ft in a building we previous owned. Clearly showing they just did not need space. The nature of their suit to us moving costs renovations at new space distribution of their business etc etc. HOWEVER they agree to drop their entire action if we stop asking for UNPAID rent. So yes you are correct meant to intimidate us

We need to leave because of your action on XYZ which is only a matter they have knowledge of because they represent us. Clearly dishonest unethical people but we are out lots of money we paid for custom renovations to suit their needs.

    Well, I noticed your userID includes "smalltown" in it. Do you think you can get a fair trial in your "small town"? Or get a change of venue? I would think that would be the only possible road block to winning your case.

    I'm surprised your new attorneys aren't ALL OVER THIS! Judging, again - just from your description of the situation I would think you'd have an EXCELLENT case against them for:

    -rent, past and future
    -renovation costs
    -court costs
    -you new, high-powered attorney's fees
    -and possible slander

    I will be blunt, lawyers will be able to file dozens and dozens of motions to stall, delay and confuse the issue To be honest I bet you will spend more money in legal fees trying to win than you will ever get.

    I wish I wouild or could make it sound better, and in small town america, often it is almost impossible if the attorneys have ties to the courts.
