Water backing up into kitchen sink from dishwasher
I am having ongoing problems with my dishwasher backing up water into the kitchen sink. I will come into the kitchen during a cycle and find it half full. It was suggested that it was because potentially the garbage disposal is having problems. However, I went and did the reset switch on the disposal and I get a dull whirring sound. This leads me to believe that perhaps the blades are caught or stuck in the garbage disposal. With the water in the sink, I am unable to see where the blades are to release them. Not to mention, but the water that is being released from the dishwasher is bringin all sorts of debris from the pipes back up into the sink and leaving a less than desirable condition. Help!!

Keep your hands out of the disposal. You bave a partial blockage in the horizontal drain line in the wall that won't allow the addition volume the DW discharges. The solution would be to dip the water out of the sink and remove the "J" bend from the trap and send a snake up into the wall, (see image) You will hit a bend about 8 inches in but once around that you only have to put out 5 feet more. After, flush with a tub of hot watere. Good luck, Tom

Is there anyway this kind of issue can be prevented? Previously, the plumber would come in and take a long stick and move the blades and it would work. That is not working in this case and it has been an ongoing issue for about 6 years. How can it be remedied so that it does not occur in the future? Also, are there not supposed to be air vents on the sink if there is a garbage disposal and dishwasher hooked up? There is not one in the case but I thought I might need to put one in.

You're assuming the problem's a stuck disposal table. That doesn't seem to be the case here. Does your sink drain OK? If one side of the sink drains and the disposal side does not then click on back with more information. Regards, Tom

Does your kitchen has two sinks or only one with G/D installed if it has two sinks and one drains OK, garbage disposal has nothing to do with it, Just follow Tom"s instruction you have blockage in the horizontal dorian pipe, good Luck.

I do not have an air gap. My hose has an upper loop and runs into the drain after the trap. The sink drains fine but when I run the dishwasher, water backs up into the sink. I tried drain cleaner and run an auger into the lines and I don't see signs of a clog. I ran the auger 25' into the line...

No hot water in kitchen sink or dishwasher

There is no hot water in the kitchen sink. If you let it flow on high for a few minutes, it gets tepid. I have felt the water in the dishwasher in the middle of a cycle and it is cold.
