    H-1B is non-resident alien but when it comes to tax issue, you file tax under same principles as residents.

    Many states do not recognize IDP, and H-1B holders are allowed to have SSN and state issued driver's license. Though you may drive with license from your country, but insurance premium for US driver's license is much cheaper. You may save up to 30-40%.

1040NR -> 1040: Non-resident Alien to Resident Alien? [ 1 Answers ]
