Isass.exe - System Error. An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function."
    Hello,

I have a windows XP (With service pack 1) and it has been working fine for for the last couple of days... YEah! None of those SP1 horror stories for me! But when I turn on my computer this morning right before the login screen would come up, I get: "Isass.exe - System Error. An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function."

If I click OK, my computer reboots and this creates a horrible cycle... hmmm error... ok... reboot.. maybe it will wor... no there's the error again... OK... reboot maybe it will wor.. no there's the error.

The same process for all of the advanced booting options. No safe mode, no last known good.

I used the winXP CD to start the automated recovery, and I got this, ' The recovery console provides system repair and functionality. Type EXIT to quit the recovery console and restart the computer'. There is 2 choices here: 1. C:\windows and 2. D:\windows. (actually this C&D is my HDD that partitioned into 2 drive). Which windows instalation would you log onto <To cancel, Press ENTER>?_. If I type '1' then press ENTER, I got this message: Type the Administrator password. What it's mean? I never install an administator password before. I run my PC without password. When I restart, I still got this: Isass.exe - system error. An invalid parameter was passes to a service or function.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks

The Sasser Worm generates reboots like that although I don't remember the exact LSASS error. Removal instructions for SASSER. You'll also need Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-11 Patch to prevent reinfection.

Also search Microsoft's Support Knowledge Base for that error. There have been several LSASS related fixes in later Service Packs.

Isass.exe is Not a virus or worm but it can be infected with one to disallow itself to boot your system, hence the error message .
If you have no password then just hit enter it will go through
When you get into diagnostic mode/help mode. You can try fixing the master Boot Record
By typing, fixmbr I think, anyway just type the word help once your in and you'll get a menu..
    If This doesn't help...

    Then boot from cd again
    Go trough the startup process
Delete all partitions (im assuming that your system is unstartable and you want to set it up again?))
    Next
    Create a new partition
    Then
Format your hard drive (dont do a Quick Format)
    Install windows etc
The order might be wrong but that's essentially it..
