Ultrasound today.the doctor is thinking twins
I went for my first appointment yesterday and the doctor felt my uterus. She said it was large for how far along I am. When she found out that twins fun in both sides of my family she smiled and said... oh yeah... you're having twins. I have my ultrasound today.

I have a question. On the paper she gave me it said I have to have a full bladder. Is that for the ultrasound or is it so I can pee in a cup again. The nurse told me that I'd have to do that every time but the paper said I had to drink 32 oz and not go to the bathroom 2 hours before I go to the doctor. I go pretty much every hour so it seems like it'll be difficult. If it's just to give a sample I'll just drink a bottle of water on the way but if I HAVE to have a full bladder then... guess I'll have to have a full bladder.

Women getting an ultrasound are encouraged to drink several glasses of
Water an hour before the exam and not go to the bathroom until after the
Exam. The full bladder helps the doctor locate the pelvic organs and get a clearer and more accurate picture. However, this advice only applies for some ultrasounds, depending on the kind of probe used and the point in pregnancy when the ultrasound is done.

Also, the earlier you are in your pregnancy a full bladder helps get a better picture because it help make the baby come further up in your abdomen so they can see it. Early on, the baby is usually sitting very low. A full bladder will push the uterus up.

Congradutions, and you can always question your doctor about this procedure.

Thank you. The nurse checking me out actually put a stamp on the paper that put the instructions for the full bladder so the doctor wasn't there or I would have asked her.
    Thanks for your help.

She should have explained it to once the appointment was made. What would have happen if you did not read it? It just part of being thorough on her part, I think.

The ultra sound tech said one baby. I'm not totally convinced though because I think the tech was really in a hurry. It was about 4:30 or so when they started. My friend is using the same doctor but ended up with another ultra sound tech and her sono pic was much better and he took time to really talk to her about what was going on. I'll be totally convinced of just one baby when I get my blood test results back in 2 weeks and they check HCG levels and talk to my Dr. Thanks everyone.

Well hummm... I had a lac of confindence in my dr too. And my feeling was right all be having my twins on sep 20th, and my first dr told me dec 10th. He was in a hurry also. And didn't even see baby number 2 in the ultrasound. I would seek a second oppion if u don't feel comfortable with this dr. Or the ultrasound tec.
