    Buying a home
    Hello there,
I am just wondering about buying a house. I am permanently disabled. My husband died 9 years ago so my 15 year old daughter receives death benefits from him. I really want to buy a small, modest home, but there are reasons that I don't know what to do beside my disability.
My husband was fighting cancer for 20 years before he died. You can well imagine the hospital bills that I am still paying, his funeral, etc. but the largest burden is my college school loan. I was 2 weeks shy of taking my BAR exam when they found the tumor in my brain. I ended up having 2 brain surgeries, aside from the fact that I had a serious accident 4 months before finding the tumor and had a badly broken leg, which is a part of the reason I can no longer work. Right now the loan department and I are playing this paperwork game as they are trying to find out from my doctor if I'm really permanently disabled or not. I have done my entire part and my doctor has done hers, now it's this waiting on an answer. Meanwhile I really need to get my family out of this place quickly and I really do want to buy a home. Do I have any chance of being helped with this? I would so appreciate it if you would get back to me. Thanks

A group that has helped me greatly, at little cost is Acorn Housing. I don't know if there is an office near you. They can help to figure out what credit issues you have and help you to become a homeowner.

As a first step, I would advise pulling all three of your reports at www.annualcreditreport.com for free, if you are eligible. Don't bother buying the scores that they will offer, as they are useless. Most creditors, especially mortgage lenders, do not use those scores. If you want your true FICO scores, get those at myFICO - FICO Credit Scores | Get a Free Credit Report Online

You need to look them over and find out exactly what is on your reports. Look for anything that is inaccurate, not yours, too old to be reported, duplicated, etc.

To get normal mortgage you have to have a income and they look at debt to income ratio among other things. There are groups like Habitat for Humanity that helps many low income families own their home.
Now I will ask, why can't you continue and take the bar, did you get menalty handicaped due to the illness or accident ?
I know attorneys who have all sorts of phsycial handicaps. They even make all sorts of accomidations to take the bar.
