I started my period at 12.. It was PREFECT... I had a 29 day cycle... THEN.. my mother forced me onto birth control when I was 15.. I took Ortho Tri Cyclen for six months.. then two shots of depo... I finally convinced my mother that I wasn't having sex and that the birth control was making me sick... She let me stop taking it..

Depo is active for three months after it "wears off" you start your period... I started just like I should have... but I never stopped:eek:.. I bleed for three months before getting a chance to go back to the doctor... They put me on Ortho Cyclen... I took it for about 6 months then stopped... My periods were off but I was told that they would go back to normal soon.. They never did... For the last few years I would have a 6 to 7 day period then have nothing for 3 to 4 months.

Well now I'm about to be 21 and want to have a baby... But my periods are so messed up I can't plan anything! :mad:

I tried to talk to my doctor about this and was just told that starting Ortho Cyclen would "fix" me... :rolleyes:

I just started my third pack...

As I read the drug facts of Ortho Cyclen I see that it stops ovulation... And that once you stop taking the pill it may take up to a year to conceive especially if you have irregular periods starting them... that's NOT WHAT I WANT AT ALL!

I will be 21 in just over a week.. and I really want to have a baby by the time I turn 23.. :)

I need some support in this area... :(

I love how understanding my boyfriend is with all of this... but he is getting upset with me and I hate to see him hurt...

OK. Here it goes. The honestly best way is to get on a birth control... and STAY on a birth control for a while. You don't need to switch your brand or type and you don't need to stop. If you give it enough time while you're on it it will fix your cycle. I have been on Lutera for 6 months now and my period is still about 2 days off and only lasts for 4... which is a lot better than it was when I was off it. It was 6 days long, very hard, and about 45 days apart before. Trust me... stay on the same brand, and be patient. It will all come in time.

Getting pregnant is a major hormonal bump. Your periods may normalize after the baby is born. If you're ready to begin a family, get off the birth-control drugs. See what happens.

Depo shots can really mess things up for you. I know from firsthand experience. So no shots, get off anything with Ortho in the name. If u need to be on something, try Enpresse. It has worked best for me. As for conceiving, go see a fertility doctor and start taking prenatal vitamins.

Have you ever had a screening done to check your hormone levels? This would also be a good route to consider. The main purpose of birth control pills is to suppress ovulation or prevent implantation, so you wouldn't likely conceive while taking them, but they do work well for many women in helping to restore more regular cycles in hopes that it continues once they do stop taking them when ready to conceive.
An alternative to birth control pills, that some women have found success with in regulating cycles, is the herbal supplement Vitex. It can take a few months of use to see a change, but it has helped many women if there was a hormone imbalance. You would not take it while taking the pill however. Do the research and discuss it with your doctor as a possible option.

Every time I ask my doctor about screening to see if there really is something wrong with my hormone levels he just tells me that everything will be fine it I take my birth control correctly... :(

He tells me that I should think of other things than getting pregnant... (I searching for a new doctor now... )

I just ordered a bottle of Vitex... I hope to start it within the next week.
I never would have looked into herbal supplements... The more I read about Vitex the more I like it...
